FIFA revealed this week the nominees to The Best FIFA Football Awards, a ceremony that will take place on December 17, 2020 and that recognizes the achievements of soccer players around the world during the 2019-2020 season.
Two expert panels – one for women’s football and another one for men’s football – selected the candidates for each category.
Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas currently playing with the Paris Saint-Germain team, received his second nomination in the category of The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper. Navas is competing against Brazilian Alisson Becker (Liverpool FC); Thibaut Courtois (Belgium / Real Madrid FC); German Manuel Neuer (FC Bayern München); Jan Oblak (Slovenia / Atletico de Madrid) and Marc-André ter Stegen (Germany / FC Barcelona).
On the other hand, Shirley Cruz who currently plays with the OL Reign of the United States is nominated to the FIFA Puskás Award for the best goal of the year, a category where she is competing against another 10 nominees. The goal that won Cruz the nomination took place in a game against Panama in the qualifying games for the Olympics which took place back in January.
The winner of the FIFA Puskás Award will be selected by an international jury comprising a panel of FIFA Legends and by the fans from all over the world registered on FIFA.com
This is not the first time Navas is nominated and in 2017 he came in third just behind Gianluigi Buffon and Manuel Neuer.
Public voting is open on FIFA.com and will run until 9 December 2020 (23:59 CET).
FIFA will announce the three finalists in each of the seven categories listed above on 11 December 2020 and the ceremony will be held on December 17.
