- Ad reinforces strategy to attract airlines to the country.
For the first time, the US flag carrier Spirit Airlines will incorporate the new flight route Houston- San José, as part of its expansion in Latin America.
There will be four weekly flights, which will start operating from May 28, 2015, in an Airbus A319 / A320 with capacity for 178 passengers.
Alberto López, General Manager of the Costa Rican Board of Tourism, said that this is a story of great importance for our country, since this is the first flight of a low-cost airline coming from the central region of the United States to Costa Rica; he was pleased because the efforts being made by ICT in attracting new airlines are still bearing fruits for the benefit of national tourism.
“Texas is the third largest state in which reside the best prospects for our country, which means that its inhabitants have a high interest in visiting or revisiting Costa Rica. This new flight, coupled with such a wide frequency (four weekly flights), will provide the facilities to increase the number of seats available and, therefore, the number of tourists visiting our country, “said Lopez.
In 2013, the number of top prospects reported in the United States was of 17.6 million. Out of those, Texas occupies 7.3%; ie nearly 2 million people residing in the state are listed as top prospects, who are characterized as experienced travelers with higher incomes and higher education levels.
Also, eight out of 10 North American tourists entering the country by air are from the United States. Only in the first nine months of this year, nearly 740,000 international arrivals by air were reported from that country.
American tourists entering Costa Rica airway in 2013 remained on average 10.4 nights and, during their stay in the country, had an average expenditure of approximately US $ 1 231.9; therefore, this important announcement comes to strengthen air links between the two destinations.
Spirit Airlines is a low-cost airline which operates around 280 daily flights to over 55 destinations in the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
