June “Happenings”
Well the rains finally came and Tamarindo is getting a good bath in preparation for its next tourist season, which directly parallels the U,S, and Canada’s school calendar, and spans from mid -June to the end of August.
Gil’s Place reopened last month to a warm welcome from many loyal Tamarindians. Located in the old Stella’s Restaurant up the street from Pasatiempo and Pachanga, Gil and his girls are there Monday through Saturday 8am-2:30pm serving up his famous breakfast burritos and California influenced Mexican lunches. Call 2653-0127 or 8857-1152 for more info.
At night in the same spot, you can find Wild’s Bar and Restaurant, where owner Rob and his partners, serve home-style comfort food and “all around good eats” typical of the southern United States. With huge portions for a comfortable price and plenty of heavy metal music to boot, Wild’s is a fun addition to Tamarindo’s dinner options.
Another new restaurant named Tango & Grill recently opened across the street from Voodoo and serves “parrilla” or typical Argentinean barbecue and a nice salad bar along with other food indigenous to the country. The locale also hosts its own Tango performances a few times a week. Call Winces at 8867-2871 for more info.
Speaking of Tango, Veronica teaches a weekly Tango class at SER Studio every Tuesday at 6pm. If you have never tried it, Tango is a great way to heat up your body and libido while learning something new.
Due to popular demand, Mariel added 2 more Pilates Plus classes at SER on Monday and Wednesday’s at 7pm in additional to her regular class schedule. Email marielyoga@hotmail.com to receive a complete weekly agenda.
Pasatiempo now has a revised menu, refined by new owner Shlomo, who aims to be the “best deal in town” as well as create a place for affordable, family fun. Pasatiempo’s week activities are as follows: Monday 15% Discount on Menu, Tuesday Rock n’ Roll Open Mic & Ladies Night, Wednesday 4-9pm 2500c Margarita Night with Chips & Salsa, Thursday 4-9pm Happy Hour 2x1 on Special Menu, Saturday 2-5pm Pool Party 2 x 1 Pizza, Sunday Brunch with Mimosa or Bloody Mary. For Weddings, Birthday Parties, Sports Broadcasts call 653-0096.
During the next few months, local DJ Collective Soundswell will be spinning at BarONE on Tuesday’s following their weekly movie night and as well as on Thursdays for Ladies Night. Call Matt for more info at 8332-9339.
Soundswell will also road trip to San Jose’s favorite lounge Rhapsodia located on Paseo Colon every Friday night. For something different look for the collective on Thursday’s at Flamingo’s new Baja Bar
.
If water quality and preserving Tamarindo’s infamous wave interests you, attend the Tamarindo Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation’s weekly meeting Thursday’s at 7pm at Surf Club Langosta.
And now that the rains have started, please don’t forget to wear bug repellent daily and be aware to eliminate any standing water near your home or workplace so that together we can prevent a Dengue epidemic this “wet” season.
Surf Club Sports Bar Playa Langosta offers weekly 8 ball tournaments onWednesdays at 7:30pm and weekly Bingo on Saturdays at 7:30pm.
Happy Rains Tamarindo! Enjoy!
