Tamarindo Has New Road… What a difference!

02 June, 2008 03:50:00 Lady Ann Umaña Segura

Little by little, a group of people concerned about cleaning up the image of Tamarindo has fulfilled its goals. First, a clean beach, then recycling programs, and now a new road to transit as you should!

No one would have thought two years ago that Tamarindo would experience a series of substantial improvements. The news on pollution, deforestation, among other woke up the people, and far from damaging them, those issues activated the survival instinct of many.

Although only few saw it that way, a new sport called (“Car Surfing”) was been developed in Downtown Tamarindo with all those bumps and holes throughout the main road and the famous and “minuscule” Tamarindo Lake. Others thought of it as one of the folkloric nightmares of the region.

THE Tamarindo News wrote in a past issue about the effort made by some businesspeople, developers and the Municipality, who joined forces to complete the urgent work: of building  the new road, which is finally done!

Jacob Rodríguez, employee of a company located steps away from the fixed stretch said, “It is better now. We hope that the work completed  is good enough to tolerate the upcoming winter. It is a shame that it is only a short stretch. The whole street needed to be rebuilt.”

Manuel Ramírez , Tourist worker, gave his opinion, “this might help us to get rid of the winter issues. We are not suffering anymore with Tamarindo Lake. This effort is quite beneficial for the area. We have no more complaints from our clients; it was impossible to move around. For sure, it signals a good future for Tamarindo.”

Marjolet Grant, also involved in the tourist industry, said: “It should have been done up to Langosta. The volume of tourist arriving to Tamarindo is quite high. It would be great if the town looked presentable.

These three opinions represent the town”s  relief of driving on a road in good shape. There are plenty of good intentions; those responsible for completing the project have already shown it.  However, raising the money for the rest of the road to be fixed the same way is another thing. The tiny stretch of road recently fixed cost $160,000, money that implied time, efforts, and negotiations.

Residents, businesspeople, and developers of Tamarindo were moved  to repair this portion of Tamarido road by previous initiatives that were difficult to follow through. Nevertheless, goals can be accomplished! What a difference!
