Bon Jour Tamarindo! Bon Jour!
I write to you from the small town of St. Tropez in the French Riviera! St. Tropez is similar to our little town of Tamarindo in the fact that it too was once a small sleepy fishing village, but soon became the hot spot in France after Bridget Bardot filmed "And God Created Woman” here. Now, St. Tropez is one of France’s most recognized and prestigious towns with multimillion dollar homes, international tourism, chic boutiques, and of course the incredible super-sized yachts that line the port. One of the most popular activities here is the Farmers Market which takes place twice a week selling all types of wares from fresh fruits, vegetables, spices, meats, paella’s to clothing, antiques, bedding, and everything else you can imagine. It is one of the most spectacular and treasured community events.
While I was here in the south of France I took advantage and made a quick jaunt down to Cannes for the 61st Cannes Film Festival. If you want to talk about avant garde community events, this is the “crème de la crème.” The coastal city of Cannes transforms itself with over 20 sophisticated tent lounges and stages along the beach where the parties run all day and night, the champagne flows, and the areas top chefs put out their best gourmet creations. At about 5p.m you begin to see black suits and evening gowns parading down the street with paparazzi everywhere taking photos. As I watched the fanfare, Hollywood stars such as Sean Pean, Natalie Portman and the stunningly beautiful, Faye Dunaway, made their way up the red carpet. Hotels adorned with movie glitz sponsor all the different films, and house the after parties for the “who’s Who” to party the night away.
I might be miles away from Costa Rica, but a little Ticolandia came my way as the 2008 Quiksilver International Surfing Assocation (ISA) World Junior Surfing Championship (WJSC) will take place in Hossegor-Capbreton-Seignosse, France from May 24 through June 1, 2008. You can get the results on www.surfingcr.net.
Go Ticos! Oh-ehh, oh-ehh oh-ehh oh-ehh!
Bon soi!
